Owner, Matthew Becker
Matthew’s interest in hospitality started at an early age, four in fact. His father took over a pub in Clymping, West Sussex and so at every opportunity, Matthew spent as much time as possible there, even changing a barrell at the age of 6! These experiences have stood him in good stead, as he now owns 3 other pubs, as well as The Crab and Anchor! He enjoys the challenge of turning businesses around which is exactly what he has achieved at The Crab and Anchor, along with his fantastic team.
Head Chef, Arlindo
Arlindo was born in the South of Portugal. He started working in a kitchen at the age of 14, where his love of cooking grew quickly. He worked in various venues throughout Portugal, working his way up to Head Chef. In 1980 he moved to England and worked in various restaurants including at the BBC and Heathrow airport before taking over as Head Chef at The Crab and Anchor in 2001. He is passionate about food and always checks every dish before it is served to make sure that it is perfect!
“We were on a journey home and took a turn off the motorway to find somewhere to eat. This place was brilliant – vast choice of meals, quick and friendly service and the food was delicious, with lots of it! Pity we don’t live anywhere near it or we would definitely return.”
